I am a member of a camera club and often get involved in discussion about photography. Amongst the great photographers and enthusiasts I occasional hear muted cries from fellow members bemoaning these lack of photo-taking opportunities.

The comments are usually in response to seeing some great pictures taken by a fellow member.

“If only I lived in a place like yours” is the regular cry. Or perhaps “I wish I lived near to some beautiful countryside like you”. There are alternatives centring on not having willing models, lack of good weather or perhaps inspirational difficulties.

The truth is far simpler. Great images are rarely born from a lucky break, although they can be. Living near to a good photo opportunity helps but doesn’t guarantee success

Inspiration is the key.

Nobody said that people have to take photographs of things close to them. There are ways and means of travelling further afield. But for those that wish to say at, or near to, home, follow some simple advice:

- open your eyes and look around: don’t be lazy - have a look around at the subjects around you; there is always an image to be had, you might just need to work to get it

- same subject, different angle: take a familiar subject and get a different perspective - change your viewpoints, get higher or lower, get close or further away, even change the background, setting or props to make your usual subject a bit more “unusual”

- Same angle, different delivery: give that subject a makeover! - how about changing the lighting (flash, coloured gels, candlelight, natural light) or perhaps changing the effect (filters to change the colour or appearance)? Think about what would complement your subject - use soft focus, for example, to create a romantic aura or a star filter to brighten highlights.

Don’t be constrained but what you see around you. Look deeper to find an alternative image.

It takes a bit of work but it’s worth it

Lost, is the resonance of a childhood memory, in the scuddle of daily work routines, home maintenance and the juggling of career and family.

Allow yourself, for one moment, to fade back to your long-forgotten childhood. You know, the one that you’ve replaced with morning traffic drudge, scurrying to your office, hectic business meetings, work and more work. Just for sixty mere seconds, close your eyes and imagine yourself displaced from your present situation - No work. No hurrying to get your shopping completed. No kids. No spouse. No household chores or car repairs. Suddenly, you find yourself drifting through a long tunnel of fog. It’s peaceful there. Absolute quiet with an allure of common mystique. When you exit the tunnel, you have returned to a childhood place.

Where is it, that you have arrived? Is it the child within that longed to see Santa Claus magically flying ‘cross rooftops in the dark, starry night? Or the child who sat in wonderment of how the moon stayed in its place and never fell down? Perhaps you’re the child who marveled at fairy-tale endings and the long-awaited rescue of the knight in shining armor? Better still, you’ve arrived at a stage in your life that invokes the lost innocense of childhood imagination, playful intrigue and blissful creativy. There are no boundaries here. The world is your playground.

Now think - what is it, at this precise moment that is the most important objective in your life? It’s not obtaining the Hummer at your auto dealer, nor is it the promotion at work or the house on the hill… your only objective as a child is to have fun. Your overwhelming desire to play and enjoy life is your only goal. It’s not getting up at 4am to fight shoppers at the local department store for the day-after-Thanksgiving sale. It’s not making a deadline to get that business proposition in… no, for just that moment, you’ve realized where your heart truly lies.

Children, in retrospect, are the morning’s glory, and the ultimate hope of all that we manifest. You see, for that moment in time, we’ve rediscovered the meaning of our life. Children present themselves as the untapped passion of life’s zest. When we permit ourselves to take a back seat to life’s sometimes, very fast lane, we lose track of our own personality and individual conceptions. Caught up in “keeping up with the Jones’” theory, we struggle for acceptance in a sometimes cruel world.

Our battle for riches can often cloud our vision and leave us in a tailspin of unhappiness, greed and false pride. There is no longer a true sense of achievement, rather a vicious cycle of envy that disallows ultimate happiness and personal fulfillment. By miscalculating our motives, we diminish our own morals, ethics and personal quest for growth and enlightenment.

Do you sometimes ask yourself, “What am I doing with my life?” Good. This is a query that more persons should truly begin to focus on. In life, there should be no imitations or fraudulent manifestations of the human potential. We should not begin to confuse ourselves of what is real and attainable, with what is superficial and unreliable. You see, when you take a look into your childhood and rehash the subconcsious memory of what is really important, you will find that love and happiness are the true aspirations of mankind. Success and prosperity are always sure to follow.

Perhaps today is the day you can make that trip to memory lane and decide for once, what life means to you. Just some thoughts.

As with anything, there are ethical considerations when doing astrological readings. There are certain things that you should always do and then there are certain things that you should never do under any circumstance. We’ll cover the most important of these do’s and don’ts in this article.

One of the things you should always do when doing an astrological reading for someone is make them feel comfortable. Wherever your setting, make it as homey as possible. You don’t want to dress it up with fancy occult items. Don’t wear a turban or anything that makes you look like a psychic. Those are the things that give astrologers a bad name. You want to wear regular clothes and look like a regular person. This will give you a lot more credibility.

When doing a reading, be sociable, but remember that the reason the person is there is for a reading and not for a coffee klatch. Most likely they are paying by the hour so you want to get right to business after you greet your customer.

While doing a reading, there are going to be a number of terms and things that the person you are reading for may not understand and they may have quite a few questions. Even if these questions seem silly or common sense, answer them as best as you can and always with a smile on your face. Remember, they are paying you for your services and as with any other service related industry, you want to be courteous.

When telling a person something about their future, explain to them where this information is coming from. For example, if you tell somebody that they are about to have challenges at their job or in their career path and this is because of 2 planets that are square to each other, then tell them this. Take the time to explain why you have come up with what you have. This will give your reading more credibility.

On the other hand, you don’t want to bog the person down with every little detail of how you arrived at each little thing. There are a number of small details for every astrological reading. To dwell on minutiae would turn a two hour reading into four hours. Only point out the parts that are very important and explain those in detail so the person understands not only what is going on, but what to watch out for, such as two planets coming into trine with each other, so they will know when tensions will begin to ease.

The one thing you should never do when performing an astrological reading is predict death. Even though you may be sure you see death coming, this is one thing you just don’t do. It is okay to warn somebody that you see a dangerous situation ahead and warn them that they should be careful, say, when traveling. But never tell them you see them getting killed in a plane crash. This is one of the biggest don’ts, not only in astrology, but for all of the mystical sciences.

By following the above guidelines, your readings should all go very well.

These days, information regarding vitamins is widely available. It is a blessing because simply a few decades ago, information on vitamins was very slight. At that time, doctors would tell us that we get all the vitamins our body needs simply from our daily diet. But think about this, they didn’t used to know that smoking was related to cancer either.

Fast forward to today. Nearly all doctors now suggest we take at least some form of multivitamins daily. There’s also a growing trend in which the medical profession is learning more about vitamins and nutrition and how health is affected by them. It can be a long road because even today, many medical schools do not include the benefits of vitamins within their curricula and how their intake affects our health. Some of this fact can be pointed to the fact that Western doctors in general are trained to treat the disease. They do not sometime understand much about how vitamins can be used as a preventable measure. All the high tech inventions will not save us if we do not address the basic needs of vitamins and the role it plays within the human body.

The need for vitamins in our daily diet is more important than ever. With our fast pace lifestyle and the food that we intake, dried, canned, extracted, repackaged. Vitamins serve its purpose by promoting health and filling in the gaps than fast food doesn’t. It just means it is more important than ever to keep vitamins in mind. Our advances in food processing did solve much of hunger issue in regards to food production and distribution. But at the same time, it also means what we ingest doesn’t contain enough nutrients for best health. Which means taking health vitamin supplements is essential now more than ever. On top of that, eating fruits, grains and vegetables also aids in this matter.

If you’re interested in learning more about how vitamins can affect your life, information is easily obtainable. You can subscribe to newsletters from Andrew Weil, Dr. Susan Lark or Dr. David William. They all are authority in the field. Furthermore, each of them can offer you a sample of multivitamins formulas so you too can sample the benefits. Be sure to get the correct formula to you, some of them are made for women, some for seniors while other are tuned more for the athlete’s body. By giving vitamins some more thought, you might very well see an increase in your overall resistance to illness as well as an energy boost. And who wouldn’t want that?

We are in a season in which activities and demands are picking up. There are more schedules to manage and more pulls on our time. In general, we want to be helpful and accommodating to people. As a result, we hate to say “No.” People often do anything to avoid this word: We will avoid people, redirect conversations, make excuses, be non-committal, or simply say “Yes” to things we know we will have a hard time following through on. The reality of the situation is that we simply cannot do everything. When we keep saying “Yes” to things, we are adding on more stuff to our plate, which causes stress, frustration, and an overwhelmed feeling. Even though we would like to answer “Yes” to everything, in order to have a peaceful life that contains quality, balance and basic sanity, we must learn how to say “No.”

How do you do it? When you say “Yes” to a new activity, you have to say “No” to remove something else that is already on your full plate. Here is how:

1. Be clear on your priorities and what is important. If you are not clear, you will not have a compelling reason to say “No” when you feel drawn to accept a new item on your plate. Try to strike a balance with the Essential Eight: family, friends, work, health, budgeting, fun, physical space (home, office, car), and personal growth (spiritual, educational, personal development). For example, for family, you could commit to spending five hours a day taking care of your family and making sure their needs are met, and for work you could commit to spending eight hours a day working on projects that produce an income of $5000/month in order to provide for your family.

2. Set filters for each of your Essential Eight areas. You want to list your Essential Eight in order of priority, and set a filter for each (take the purpose/goal for each area and then be clear on what fits and what does not). Take special note of the proportion each area is getting. If priority one is family, two is work, three is health, and you have committed 100% to work, with no time allotted for family or for personal care, several negative things will happen. Your health will suffer, which will then jeopardize your physical ability to complete your work. Your family will also interrupt and demand superhuman feats for you to squeeze their needs onto your already full plate. These filters will help you discern to what things you need to say “No” to in order to maintain balance.

3. Evaluate what is on your plate. Considering each of the Essential Eight areas and your priorities, determine what your needs are. Do you need it or not? Consider your balance so you have some big projects (meat), some personal care (veggies), some daily necessities (good grain/fillers), and a hobby/fun thing (dessert). These are the things to which you are saying “Yes!”

4. Say “No” to the things that do not meet your filters. These may be the least important things on your list, or new things that come up in your life. Remember that whenever you say “Yes” to something you are saying “No” to something else. If you say “Yes” to a weekend project at work, you are saying “No” to your family time that weekend (You may not have to specifically tell your family “No” but that will be the result). If you say “Yes” to volunteer at the evening carnival, you are saying “No” to your workout, which could result in your being more tired and lethargic, and therefore less productive the next day.

When you say “No” you have more power to say “Yes” to what is important. Remember that “No” can mean “Never,” but it can also mean, “No, not right now.” Let yourself have some space to do what is important. You will experience the power of balance and boundaries, which will result in you being more effective and productive. You will enjoy less stress and more peace with your life.

The most valuable assets of a 20th century company were its production equipment. The most valuable assets of a 21st century organization … will be its knowledge, workers and their productivity. -Peter Drucker

Peter Drucker is a respected author and opinion leader (he invented the process of “management by business objectives”) and I’m positive he would agree that one notable way to get the best performance from “workers” and maximize their “productivity” is through coaching; an interactive communication process between members of an organization aimed at exerting a positive influence on performance.

Is coaching developing some momentum? At the 2003 ASTD Conference, President Tina Sung spoke of coaching skills as being one of the four emerging trends for the future. Type “coaching skills” into Google and you’ll find about 5 million entries. Graduate Schools of Management and the AIM run courses on it. Even my local suburban newspaper advertises coaching franchises. The AITD’s February meeting in Sydney featured Coaching and drew 85 participants. Who knows, we may soon be watching prime time TV and marvel at a cluster of coaches renovating a block of home units. Now that’s what you call acceptance!

Since coaching is something done with people, rather than to people, just how well prepared (both in skills and attitude) are managers to coach? Managers typically have an innate interpersonal technique, and so perhaps management’s perceived value of coaching can be indicated by how readily it’s being absorbed into business culture and put into practice.

Kate Farrelly reported in the Sydney Morning Herald (March 2003) that in “a study of 35,000 managers in Australia and New Zealand their leadership style is oriented towards fear of failure and denial of responsibility rather than pursuing the company’s goals and developing good staff relations.” The ASTD’s journal (T&D, March 2003) reports Mercer’s “Effective Management Practices Survey” that found “78% of employees surveyed said their managers routinely conduct annual performance reviews, (while only) 26% said managers routinely provide ongoing coaching and constructive performance feedback.” So, managers are either not coaching or the people they’re coaching don’t know when they are being coached! But this data indicates that coaching is one of the most avoided of all leadership tasks.

So why in some managers is there a disconnect between the manager’s ability and/or willingness to coach and their drive to achieve the organization’s goals?

Further to this disconnect, we need to make the distinction between “coaching skills” and “effective coaching”. Managers coach when they are willing and able to address the effective and efficient performance of tasks. If coaching occurs within an obvious context of a shared vision, corporate objectives, organizational values and performance indicators then what’s achieved is effective coaching.

Finding solutions to this disconnect provides trainers with an opportunity to develop a role as a performance consultant - someone who has a primary role of improving productivity, first through analysis of the cause of the issue and then, designing appropriate behavior change programs. Start by understanding how the managers think. What they do and don’t react to and where their focus is aimed when it comes to people. Stop using “training language” and start using “management language” to improve understanding. Find out what business processes and outcomes managers measure in order to determine productivity and profitability. From a selfish perspective, being an advocate for coaching and being able to communicate this business case for coaching places you in a position of higher value within the organization. You show yourself as someone who is on a similar wavelength as the managers in helping drive the business.

Some managers confuse coaching with simply giving advice. As Gore Vidal said, “There is no human problem which could not be solved if people would simply do as I advise.” The reality is often that, as Gordon Dickson noted, “some people like my advice so much that they frame it upon the wall instead of using it.” So, what is another alternative, a more effective approach?

There is an increasing need to improve involvement and engagement of all employees to achieve business outcomes. Managers are continually asked to improve productivity without additional resources. One option is to enhance behavior and performance through interactive communication and influence, such as coaching. Managers need to invite employees to participate as partners, develop trusting relationships and combine everyone’s best efforts into creating business solutions. Managers also need to use their coaching skills with people within (who don’t necessarily report to them) and outside their organization.

Typical business performance indicators include productivity, employee turnover, profitability and customer satisfaction. The Gallup Organization published a study that examined the relationship between employee perceptions and these performance indicators (Curt Coffman and Jim Harter, 1999). The study found that,

“within successful business units (with above average performance) employees have clear expectations, close relationships, can see how what they do relates to “something significant,” and have an ongoing opportunity to contribute to that “something significant” while learning and growing as individuals.”

It found that successful business units were 50% more productive, had a 13% lower employee turnover, were 44% more profitable and had a 50% better level of customer satisfaction compared to those that had below average performance.

Interestingly, coaching skills often is associated with leadership. Warren Bennis (an associate of Peter Drucker) has 4 characteristics of leadership:

commitment to a mission

communicating a vision

self confidence

personal integrity

The first two characteristics involve effective coaching and the last two are personal qualities of a leader. The first two address the performance indicators mentioned by Coffman and Harter above and deal with the question, “what standard or parameters do I coach to?” It’s difficult to coach people if you have little grasp of your team’s purpose or image of the future that they can attain. A workable vision should include milestones that indicate progression towards realization. Without these two, team members will have little guidance and will be left to their own devices as to what successful growth means. Therefore encouraging coaching fosters leadership as people acquire a mindset, communication skills and values that will help build partnerships and commitment to the organization’s goals. Aligning organization business outcomes with employee needs while addressing their performance imperfections, via the activity of coaching, gives leadership meaning and challenge.

Added to this, most organizations have company value statements that say something like “we value our people”. An effective coaching skills strategy that emphasizes collaboration and respect rather than control and faultfinding, adds a tangible aspect to this value. People can see an effort being expended in helping them do a good job and experiencing a sense of achievement.

Effective coaching skills, therefore, contributes to not only a “push” to achieving business outcomes, but also a “pull” towards effective leadership.

By using the CMOE eight step coaching skills model, rather than free form coaching, you introduce a systematic approach to improving performance. Typically, people judge themselves on the basis on their intentions and most managers are well intentioned, doing their best. But they also report that sometimes they achieve a performance improvement result and sometimes not, and don’t know why. Coaching effectively is not as simple as some models and writers would lead us to believe. There is a critical balance between being supportive and caring and being clear and direct. A systematic approach teamed with a collaborative attitude keeps the coaching process objective and focused on business outcomes. This facilitates giving feedback by reducing personal bias. Together with a shared vision, coaching will produce changes in skills that produce measurable results and not just random activity.

A systematic coaching approach is very helpful with the more “difficult” people.

Kate Farrelly notes that most managers try to avoid conflict, almost at all costs. Conflict is usually the natural result of people pursuing different aims with resolution traditionally a contest of power or guile. Some managers avoid or deny the existence of the issue because they feel it may demotivate the person or the team, or maybe they feel they don’t have enough skills to coach this individual. The reality is that the aims of those in conflict are rarely clear or agreed. Conflict lessens when the coach and coachee can agree on the kind of future they both want; the way things should be - shared vision and shared expectations, boundaries and guidelines. In fact, if all coaches (within the organization, business unit, etc) use the same systematic approach/ model they talk a common language - it’s easy for them to share tips and techniques that work, especially on these more challenging people.

Managers, employees and established work practices are under pressure to change and achieve results never before asked of them. Effective coaching skills, while not being a resolution, can be a major contributor to the solutions. Effective systematic coaching is an opportunity to build meaningful partnerships between members of an organization who meet these challenges. Without effective coaching skills, progress is just that much harder.

Mark Twain said it all, “I’m all for progress, it’s change that I don’t like!”

Many Webmasters have never bothered to view their website’s server log. Ignoring your server log is like flying with a blind pilot. You may still be cruising along, but you have no idea where you are or where you’re headed. If your website is on a free host, you probably don’t have access to the server log. However, if you pay for your web host, or if you own the server, you almost always have some access to the server log.

In this article, you’ll learn what kind of information a typical server log provides, how to analyze that information, and how to use that information to steer your website in a direction for growth and success.

The actual data in the server log is just that, data. Data is of little use without an application to compile, categorize, analyze, and turn it into useful information. The power of server log analysis software varies depending upon the web host, and it’s not related to how much you pay for hosting service. I have seen some very low budget web hosts with powerful server log analysis software, and some expensive web hosts that provide only a limited utility.

The importance of the server log analysis software is second only to up-time reliabilty when it comes to web hosts. A web server log can tell you who is visiting your web site, where they’re coming from, what operating system and web browser they’re using, what pages of your website they are viewing, and much more. A smart webmaster performs a regular monthly analysis of the valuable information contained in the server log.

Hits

Some webmasters brag about the number of “hits” their website receives, but hits themselves are not important. For example, when a search engine spiders your website, it generates a hit for every page it visits. There are ways to generate millions of hits on a website without anyone ever actually viewing a single page.

The important statistics are “page view hits” and “unique visitors”. Server log analysis software should tell you how many times each page was viewed. Anaylyzing the popularity of individual pages tells you where to place your most important advertisements, and what kind of new content you should add to your website.

The king of all statistics is the number of unique visitors your web site receives. When it comes to selling advertising or joining the most exclusive affiliate programs, a high number of unique visitors each month is the statistic that gets respect.

Good analysis software will tell you how many pages each visitor viewed and how long they stayed on your website. The goal is to develop content that gets your visitors to stay longer, a quality sometimes referred to as “stickiness”.

A statistic related to hits is “bandwidth”. This is a complicated statistic because you want more visitors and that causes bandwidth to go up. On the other hand, high bandwidth consumption makes your website repond slower (and most web hosts charge extra for bandwidth beyond a certain limit). What you want is to design your web pages so they use bandwidth efficiently, and you want to be on the lookout for people who are stealing your bandwidth (usually by linking to images on your web site).

Referrers

Good server log analysis software will provide you with the URLs of the webpages that people clicked on to get to your website. This is extremely valuable information. If you are receiving a high volume of traffic from another website, you can almost consider that website to be your business partner. It would be to your advantage to find ways to make your website more useful to the referring website. For example, learn what the topic of the referring website is and place more related content on your website.

One common method of aiding referrers is to place a reciprocal link on your website. However, don’t bother placing the reciprocal link on a “links” page with hundreds of other links (a link farm). If you can’t provide an honest reciprocal link, it’s better to do nothing. An honest reciprocal link might be a page containing a review of the referrer’s website, and that page should contain only a few other links.

Search Strings

Good server log analysis software will provide you with the keywords and search strings people entered at a search site to find your website. One way to get more traffic to your website is to provide more content related to the top keywords. If getting more traffic is your single goal, there are websites that will provide you with a list of the current most popular keywords entered into search engines. Then you can provide more content related to those keywords. This gets involved with the subject of “Search Engine Optimization” (SEO).

SEO is a science in itself, covered in other articles, but I will reveal a secret trick as an example of SEO tactics. Starting with a top keyword, generate every possible misspelling of that keyword and place those at the top of your webpage with the text color the same as the webpage background. (Note: I don’t use that trick or any other SEO tricks myself because if you get caught the search engines will penalize your website.)

Platform and User Agent Good server log analysis software will tell you which operating systems and which browser brands and versions people are using to access your website. At the time of this writing, the most common operating system is Windows XP and the most common browser is Internet Explorer version 6. However, you will find a wide range of operating systems and browsers accessing you website. Unfortunately, they are not all compatible.

The fact is, you can’t design your website to be 100 percent compatible with every operating system and web browser in use today. That would require either using only plain html (version 3) or using browser detection code and creating a dozen variations of each webpage. Use your server log’s platform and user agent data to decide which browser your web pages should to be designed to be compatible with. Your statistics will probably show that 90 percent of your website’s visitors are using the latest or the previous version of Internet Explorer.

Country Information

Good server log analysis software will tell you which countries your website visitors are located in. Analysis of the bucarotechelp.com server logs shows that visitors are located in every country, village, and hamlet on the planet. This leads to the question, should you create multiple variations of each webpage to accomodate visitors from other nations? It depends upon your business and your resources. The fact is that the language of business and commerce across the planet is English, and I receive frequent email, in English, from all over the planet.

Important Ways to Use Server Log Information

Website Design

Remember when the typical website had a gray background and a single image in the middle of the page? Today, that would be below the standard for a kids website on AOL. Does your server log “platform” and “user agent” statistics tell you that most of the visitors to your website are using Windows XP with Internet Explorer Version 6, while your website is designed for Windows 95 and Internet Explorer Version 4? Can you afford to be presenting a website that looks outdated?

I think it’s a mistake to design a website that requires your visitors to have the latest bleeding-edge technology. On the other hand, if the rest of the web is using ASP (Active Server Pages) to generate custom webpages on-the-fly that use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to create webpages that resemble slick magazine pages and DHTML (Dynamic HTML) to provide interactivity, it might be time for you to investigate those technologies.

If your website is a business site or E-commerce site, the visual style and technical level of your website reflects the quality of your business or service. To determine the proper visual style and technology level of your website requires you to monitor three things.

1. Your competitors. You want to look as in-style as they do, but avoid following them down the road to bloated plugins (Macromedia Flash). 2. The portion of your audience using broad band Internet Access. Less than half of U.S. Make sure your webpages load within 20 seconds over a 56kbps modem connection. 2. Your server log platform and user agent statistics. Your web pages need to be designed to be compatible with the current most popular operating system and web browser version.

Webhost Performance

Web hosts provide two basic kinds of service, shared hosting and dedicated hosting. If your website is on a shared host, there may be hundreds of other websites sharing the same computer as your website. This limits the performance of your website. Many web host providers use “bandwidth throttling” to prevent one website from hogging all the available bandwidth.

As your website grows and attracts increasing traffic, it will need more of the host computers processor time and more bandwidth. Monitor your server log hits, and bandwidth statistics. At some point, your website may hit a performance wall and you may need to move to a higher grade of hosting, or a different web host company to continue growth.

When moving to a different web host company, don’t trust the specifications they provide. Check several different web host directories that let visitors rate web hosts. If several different web host directories have many users that give a web host company a high rating, that’s the company you want to trust with your website.

Website Topic

As you analyze certain website server statistics (for example, “page view hits”, and “top search engine keywords”) and make adjustments, you may find the content of your website drifting away from your original intent. At some point, you may have to decide, Am I going to chase traffic and change the topic of my website, or am I more interested in focusing on the topic of my choice?

If the original objective of your website was to make money above all else, then let your visitors steer your website’s content. There’s nothing wrong with that. Everybody’s got to make a living. But, if the original objective of your website was to be a resource on a subject that you are passionate about, then you may need to reassess the content of your website.

I would reccommend having the best of both worlds. Stick to content related to the subject of your website, but delineate a wide enough scope of the topic so that when your server statistics point out an opportunity to increase traffic, you have rules to guide you.

In this article you learned some of the types of information you can mine from your web server log and some powerful ways to use that information to steer your website in a direction for growth and success. If you are one of those webmasters who has never bothered to view their website’s server log, you now know that you have been overlooking some gold nuggets.

Everyone who has met Peter Sutherland would agree that his unique mix of great charm and directness has served him well over the course of his illustrious career. Peter Sutherland was a key figure in negotiating the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, and it has been well documented that in order to get the accord passed, it was not unusual for him to keep negotiators at the table late into the night. The deal came together after many years of negotiations, and the very gavel he used throughout now has a prominent place on his desk in London where he serves as chairman of the arm of Goldman Sachs Group Inc. that oversees Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

In 1995 he rejoined Goldman Sachs, where he had previously worked as an adviser. Eugene Fife then head of the firm’s London office recruited him after they met on a London-to-New York flight. Not only current but also former Goldman Sachs employees say Mr. Sutherland gave the bank a boost when it was trying to break into Europe.

Peter was widely recognized as being key for winning business away from London’s big merchant banks as well as European financial firms. He brought with him a set of invaluable contacts. He is close to Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi. In more recent times he has been known to accompany former Goldman CEO Henry Paulson on trips to China and Russia before Paulson became treasury secretary last year. Not only this, he also played an important role in forging a relationship between Goldman and Mittal Steel Co. That paid off when Mittal hired Goldman as lead banker in its $39 billion takeover of Arcelor SA last year. By all accounts Peter Sutherland has been instrumental in some keys bits of business which have had a massive impact on the development of Goldman.

In this small article we will not make side-by-side technical specs comparison. We would rather like to give you opinions from both sides - Microsoft and SAP. Both products target mid-size businesses in the USA, Europe (however Microsoft Great Plains - Dynamics GP will be leaving continental Europe market starting with version 10.0 - somewhere in the year of 2008, where Microsoft Business Solutions will probably stake on Microsoft Dynamics NAV - again this is contingent to the progress with Project Green or now Microsoft Dynamics project). Let’s come to the topic:

•	Microsoft Dynamics GP strong points. Microsoft, being leader in Operating Systems, Office Products, and also having such platforms as Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server - can now capitalize on ERP technology infrastructure, which includes ERP integration: SQL heterogeneous queries, Sharepoint workflows, web portals. At the same time, long time presence on the market for such products as Microsoft Outlook gives Microsoft the option to count on Outlook user experience - Microsoft Dynamics products will not require user training (from the interface intuitiveness standpoint) - Microsoft Dynamics CRM has Outlook Client, Microsoft Dynamics GP will have tighter integration with Outlook in its version 9.0. Making some comments on another Microsoft product - Microsoft Small Business Accounting - it is integrated with MS Outlook, where you can create invoices and promote outlook contacts to your MS SBA customers.

•	SAP Business One. This product was purchased by SAP from Israel software development company four years ago. The driven reason was probably the need to go down to mid-size and even small clientele, plus SAP needed such product to be easily adaptable to Multilanguage and complex international taxation rules. SAP Business One has CRM, ERP/Production modules and technically can serve as ERP/MRP/CRM for manufacturing or servicing subsidiary of large corporation. SAP Business One has modern architecture and design and this is what could be a strong point in decision making to select ERP platform. SAP Business One has integration to Microsoft Office - it could use email messaging through MS Outlook client / SMTP and in integrate with MS Office on the level of COM objects

•	Microsoft Dynamics arguments. At the time when Microsoft Dynamics / Project Green are working to enable Microsoft ERP products to work with Microsoft Office technologies SAP is several years behind in this direction. SAP is currently contracting Microsoft to enable SAP mySAP integration with Microsoft Office. Microsoft has this strong argument against SAP Business One - SAP deploys industry Experts who are very strong in general ERP/MRP plus probably Business and Industry Vertical Consulting to implement ERP from midsize business, where technology consulting and expertise come first. The result is longer implementation cycle plus complexity with SAP Business One integration with technology innovative and legacy products

•	SAP Business One Arguments. Microsoft is trying to trap you to its technical solutions and proprietary technologies. It is enough if we give you excellent ERP platform which has good integration tools to Microsoft Office plus enables some integration with Windows platform itself - you can use VB.Net or C#.Net (our commentary - you can have your SAP Business One to communicate with outside world with such non-Microsoft platforms as IBM Lotus Notes Domino and use Lotus Notes as Document workflow)

•	Additional Microsoft Arguments. There are analytics out there on the ERP strategic research market who support Microsoft in the opinion that SAP Business One will need technology advances (such as developing its own Office platform or tighter cooperation with Microsoft Office products) to stay current with the ERP market I the year of 2010…

•	Additional Considerations. Of course SAP has additional bells and whistles, such as language switch - you can switch from German, French or Brazilian Portuguese to US English by pressing Cnrtl key combination. Microsoft Dexterity was designed in earlier 1990th and doesn’t support such a nice functionality and Unicode - the question frequently asked by the prospect from China, India and Arabic World.

Elite athletes suffer from it, couch potatoes get it, office workers and people who work outdoors suffer from it. Chronic fatigue still remains a mystery disease that affects a large percentage of the population. The good news is that natural energy supplements, along with changes to diet, can make a difference to your health.

Before we explain how essential nutrients are perfect as energy supplements for chronic fatigue, it’s important to talk a little about the cause of the problem.

Chronic fatigue is actually a complex of symptoms with multiple causal factors - most patients suffering chronic fatigue usually have two or more factors associated with their ‘disease’.

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a complicated disorder characterized by a lack of energy that doesn’t improve with rest and may even worsen during any physical or mental activity.

Not a great deal is known about the disease, however it can occur after an infection such as a cold, glandular fever (mononucleosis or Epstein Barr virus), intestinal illness or low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).

Diet and Lifestyle

Here are some lifestyle changes you can adopt to help deal with fatigue and tiredness:

•	eliminate caffeine, alcohol, fried foods and margarine and foods containing processed sugar.

•	have an allergy test - as food allergies can sometimes be responsible for fatigue (as well as a lack of nutrients in the diet).

•	have a liver flush to detoxify your system.

•	Reflexology, chiropractic manipulation and massage can also help. An Applied Kinesiologist friend in Singapore successfully treats people suffering chronic fatigue.

Natural Energy Supplements: Vitamins, Minerals and Essential Fatty Acids
In order to function properly, the body needs optimal amounts of the all of the essential nutrients - 60 minerals, 16 vitamins, 12 amino acids and 2 to 3 essential fatty acids. If we lack any of them in our diet then we can develop health problems and diseases.

Plant derived liquid minerals along with a good source of very high quality multi-vitamins and essential fatty acids are ideal. They help by giving your system a real boost by improving cellular function, improving nutrition to the cells and making the supply of energy more efficient.

A Chromium supplement can assist with maintaining healthy blood sugar levels as low blood sugar or hypoglycaemia is frequently associated with the condition and can also make you feel tired.

Sports Energy Supplements

A recent development in health and nutrition has been the advent of ‘functional drinks’ - particularly those developed for sport. I’m not talking about ‘Red Bull’ or some other sugar-and-caffeine-infested-carbonated drink, I’m talking about health drinks containing a range of nutrients.

The best ones to look for will be drinks developed for sport. Look for those containing a blend of vitamins and minerals, they should be low in sugar and carbohydrates and high in protein (so that rules out most of the real popular drinks like Gatorade) and ideally may contain a small amount of natural green tea that is an ideal and very healthy ‘pick me up’.
